Counterfeit "fake capacity" flash drives report a size to macOS far larger than their real flash chip — any write past the real capacity silently wraps around and corrupts data already written near the start. Separately, a drive can be genuinely sized but still have physically bad sectors that corrupt whatever's stored there. Both methods below write real, verifiable markers to a real file — CinderDriveTest_SAFE_TO_DELETE.tmp in the folder you pick — and re-check earlier markers, which is what actually catches a wraparound; the Full Sequential method also catches bad sectors along the way. The file is not hidden — open the drive in Finder while a test runs and you'll see it sitting there, exactly the same kind of proof H2testw's own visible test files give you. It's deleted automatically when the test finishes or is stopped.
